Pros and Cons of Outdoor Electric
Grills
The greatest advantage of outdoor electric
grills is that you don’t have to lug around a flammable
propane gas tank or wood or charcoal, every time you want
to enjoy grilled food in your backyard or patio. All you
need to fire up your grill is to plug it in an electrical
outlet.
You don’t have to worry about gas tanks going
empty or restocking your stash of charcoal. With electric
grills you don’t have worry about fuel at all as you have
instant access to a continuous supply. You can fire up
your grill any time you want to grill your
food.
Electric grills are probably the most quick and
easy to operate among all types of grills. You can fire
them up just by turning a knob or other equally easy
mechanisms. The grill heats up and gets ready for cooking
in just a few minutes. Most electric grills are fitted
with temperature control features to maintain the heat at
the needed temperature.
Outdoor electric grills are the best choice for
those who do not have the patience to start a charcoal
grill or get messy with charcoal dust.
Electric grills create far less amount of mess;
not only during start up but during clean up as well. You
don’t have to deal with cleaning the leftover ash or
disposing of the burnt charcoal. Of course, you have to
clean the cooking grate, which is unavoidable, but
without the additional mess involved in other type of
grills.
However, as with any other grill, outdoor
electric grills too have their own set of disadvantages.
First, you will need an electrical outlet in your deck or
patio or in the cooking area of your backyard. If not,
you have to deal with a long extension cord to get to a
power source which can be quite annoying, not to mention
the potential tripping hazard.
Power source might probably be impossible in
case you want to use your electric grill while camping or
in a park or beach.
If you are looking for the natural wood smoke
flavor in your food, then electric grills are not for
you. While you have the option to add a Smoker Box to
your electric grill it is not the same as cooking over
charcoal or wood. Most often, outdoor electric grills are
comparatively smaller in size. Though there are
exceptions, it is very rare to find a large electric
outdoor grill.
